Car info: Jill (my wife) and I
have had the hots for a Chevelle for some time. I think it’s reliving
my youth. We keep learning new lessons about old cars many dollars at a
time. We spent a lot of time looking for 67 within our budget but could
not find one close enough to home to make the trip. We found this 69
Chevelle and thought it needed some work. Little did we know it needed
a lot of work. A lot of money later, it was finished after 5 years of
work. We have had everything replaced, rebuilt or changed to make it a
driver. Sorry to offend anyone but we didn’t want something we couldn’t
take on a cruise and be afraid of getting a rock chip or lay a black
mark at the local car show.
The car is a 396 cu. in with a new 5 speed Tremac. It has a 12 bolt
posi with 3.73 gears. We updated the rear suspension with Hotchkis
components. All of the suspension has been powder coated along with a
lot of the engine compartment for easy maintenance. It’s not a numbers
matching car since the original engine had a cracked block. We did
replace the engine early in the restoration from a local engine
builder.
Our grand children absolutely love riding in the car and we
don’t dare take it out without them when they stay with us.
I’m not
sure an owner ever gets finished working on the car or changing
something to make it more fun. There is always something new on the
market that seems to create more fun. Nothing money can't solve.
We love
driving the car and tend to do a lot more driving than sitting at car
shows. We get a lot of thumbs up and head turns when we cruise with the
car. |
